KARACHI: The Open Sindh Pickleball Championship 2026 got under way at the Mini Sports Complex, Nazimabad, Karachi, with the event being held from August 1 to August 2 under the banner of the Sindh Pickleball Association.
The two-day championship has brought together players from across the province for competition in one of the world’s fastest-growing sports. A total of 10 female and 12 male players are taking part in the mega event.
The opening of the championship was marked by the inauguration of a new pickleball court at the Mini Sports Complex, a development aimed at strengthening local sports facilities for athletes.
Mr Maqbool Arain, President, Pakistan Students Olympic Association (PSOA), and Mr Azmat Pasha, President, Karachi Students Olympic Association (KSOA), attended the ceremony as chief guests. Their participation reflected support at national and regional level for the promotion of pickleball and the provision of improved facilities for local players.
Players representing major districts of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur, are competing in the championship. Independent athletes have also joined the open player categories.
The contests are being held in men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles for men and women.
Tournament supervisors Mr Junaid Raees and Mr Shariq Siddiqui are overseeing the matches to ensure fair play and smooth conduct of the event.
Mr A. Samad, President, Sindh Pickleball Association, and Ms Shazia Pirzada, Secretary, Sindh Pickleball Association, were also present on the occasion. They welcomed the participating athletes, supported the matches and shared their vision for the future of pickleball in Sindh.
