Heritage Ministry, HEC Agree to Broaden Cooperation on Culture and Research

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture paid an official visit to the office of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Mr Niaz Ahmed Akhtar, where the two sides held a detailed meeting on expanding cooperation in education, culture and research.

The discussion centred on closer collaboration for the promotion and preservation of Pakistan’s cultural and linguistic heritage. Both sides underlined the need to protect national languages, encourage academic research on cultural diversity and promote cultural awareness within higher education.

The minister said the government was committed to preserving Pakistan’s historical, literary and linguistic traditions through stronger coordination with educational institutions. The minister noted that universities had an important role in documenting, researching and promoting the country’s cultural heritage for future generations.

HEC Chairman Mr Niaz Ahmed Akhtar reaffirmed the commission’s support for initiatives aimed at strengthening research, innovation and academic partnerships in the areas of culture, heritage and languages. He also expressed HEC’s readiness to work with the ministry on joint programmes, research projects and capacity-building initiatives.

The meeting also reviewed ways to improve institutional linkages between universities and cultural and linguistic organisations across Pakistan. Both sides agreed that enhanced cooperation would help preserve the country’s diverse cultural identity while supporting quality education and research.

The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to launch collaborative initiatives for cultural preservation, academic excellence and sustainable development in Pakistan’s higher education sector.
