Pakistan’s SCO chairmanship termed major diplomatic gain

President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Vice Chairman of the SCO Business Council Atif Ikram Sheikh has said that Pakistan has formally assumed the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation during the SCO summit.

In an important statement, Atif Ikram Sheikh said Pakistan taking over the SCO chairmanship for 2026-27 was a major diplomatic achievement. He said the development reflected confidence in Pakistan’s global and regional role.

The FPCCI president said Pakistan would play an active role through the SCO platform for the promotion of regional trade and economic cooperation. He added that there were broad opportunities among SCO member countries to enhance trade, investment and mutual connectivity.

Atif Ikram Sheikh said steps would be taken during Pakistan’s chairmanship to make the SCO economic agenda more effective and active. He noted that the SCO Business Council was playing an important role in bringing the regional business community closer and increasing mutual investment.

He said Pakistan’s SCO chairmanship offered an excellent opportunity to promote peace, stability and shared economic development in the region.

The Vice Chairman of the SCO Business Council said Pakistan wanted to further strengthen trade links with Central Asia, China, Russia and other SCO countries. He said regional connectivity, transit trade and investment were key pillars of economic cooperation under the SCO framework.

Atif Ikram Sheikh said the SCO Business Council platform would be used with commitment to create new business opportunities for Pakistani traders and industrialists.
