Danyal calls for credible information to counter false narratives

ISLAMABAD: Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry has said that timely, credible and verifiable information is essential for strengthening public trust and helping citizens make informed decisions in the digital era.

He expressed these views while chairing a panel discussion titled “The Value of Information Integrity: Trust, Journalism and Resilience” during a national dialogue on “Access to Information for Enhancing Information Integrity.” The dialogue was organised by UNESCO Office Pakistan in collaboration with the Press Information Department (PID), CPDI and the National Forum of Information Commissioners (NFIC).

Barrister Danyal Chaudhry said the rapid expansion of social media, digital platforms and artificial intelligence had improved public access to information, but it had also created serious challenges, including misinformation, disinformation and AI-generated content.

He underlined the importance of responsible journalism, prompt government communication, media literacy and the ethical use of artificial intelligence to reinforce public confidence in the information ecosystem.

The Parliamentary Secretary said information integrity was a collective responsibility of the government, parliament, media, civil society, academia, technology platforms and citizens. He added that credible information must be delivered to the public without delay so that information gaps are not used to spread false narratives.

Barrister Danyal appreciated UNESCO, PID, CPDI and NFIC for holding the dialogue and said enhanced cooperation among stakeholders was necessary to build a credible, transparent and resilient information ecosystem in Pakistan.
