Uzbekistan and Pakistan Explore Collaboration in Housing and Urban Development
In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, His Excellency Alisher Tukhtaev, met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Housing and Works, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, to discuss avenues for enhanced cooperation in housing, communal development, and sustainable urban growth. The meeting underscored mutual interests in leveraging each country’s expertise and reforms to address common challenges such as rapid urbanization, water scarcity, and affordable housing.
During the discussions, Minister Pirzada lauded Uzbekistan’s emerging economy and its ongoing reform initiatives, emphasizing the potential for bilateral partnerships that could benefit both nations. He highlighted the importance of adopting innovative solutions such as green construction practices, resource-efficient urban planning, and recycling methods to meet Pakistan’s rising housing demands and address water scarcity issues.
Ambassador Tukhtaev emphasized the strong cultural, religious, and historical ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, noting that recent meetings in Tashkent resulted in the formation of a Joint Working Group on Housing and Communal Services. He elaborated on Uzbekistan’s recent economic reforms, which have led to increased foreign direct investment and progress in the housing and construction sectors. The ambassador expressed Uzbekistan’s readiness to collaborate with Pakistan through capacity-building initiatives, sharing expertise in water recycling, green housing, high-rise construction, and affordable housing solutions for low-income groups.
The discussion extended to policy cooperation, with the ambassador proposing knowledge exchange in public procurement processes, legal and institutional reforms, and innovative construction techniques. Uzbekistan also offered to share its experiences and models related to rainwater harvesting, smart housing, and sustainable urban infrastructure, aligning with Pakistan’s goals for environmentally responsible urban development.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic ties by translating longstanding diplomatic relations into tangible collaborations in housing and urban development. The meeting concluded with a shared vision of fostering practical partnerships that capitalize on each country’s strengths, aiming to create sustainable, affordable urban spaces for their populations.
