Karbala Sacrifice and Upholding True Islamic Values

In a recent training workshop organized for selected candidates of the Islamic Students’ Union Punjab, Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab leader, Dr. Tariq Saleem, highlighted the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) at Karbala, describing it as the revival and immortalization of Islam. He emphasized that the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) symbolizes the ultimate commitment to truth and righteousness, serving as an everlasting inspiration to Muslims worldwide.

In his keynote address, Dr. Saleem termed the Yazidi ideology as one representing the worst forms of oppression against humanity, civilization, and ethical values. He asserted boldly that Imam Hussain (RA)’s sacrifice serves as a powerful reminder that resistance against unjust rulers—even if they themselves identify as Muslims—is a moral and ethical duty incumbent on all believers. According to Dr. Saleem, the tragedy of Karbala continues to guide individuals today, particularly the members and workers of Jamaat-e-Islami, in standing firm on principles of justice and righteousness.

The workshop also featured insightful talks by Ahmed Abdullah, Nazim of the Islamic Students’ Union Punjab, alongside respected speakers Saifullah Tariq and Raja Naeem Khawar. They underscored the critical importance of ideological education and training, and discussed contemporary challenges confronting Muslim youth across the globe today.

Focusing on current international dynamics, Dr. Tariq Saleem described the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) family at Karbala as an enduring lesson for contemporary Muslim leaders. He expressed concern over the unified stance of anti-Islamic forces, particularly led by the United States, alleging they were increasingly determined to undermine and eliminate Islamic values. Furthermore, Dr. Saleem openly criticized the U.S. administration’s policies, accusing its president of hypocrisy for supporting India and for being complicit in the violence and atrocities committed against innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

Dr. Saleem conveyed a powerful appeal to Muslim nations, urging them to abandon silence and adopt a united stance against global injustice and oppression. He stressed that Muslim leaders aligned with American interests must awaken from their indifference and stand against modern-day oppressors and tyrants. In this regard, he also praised Iran’s courageous leadership for consistently and bravely confronting forces he described as contemporary followers of Yazid.
