Kazakh Foreign Minister Participates in SCO Council Meeting

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Murat Nurtleu, participated in the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), where member states discussed strategies to strengthen foreign policy coordination and prepare for the forthcoming SCO Heads of State Summit in Tianjin.

The meeting brought together top diplomats from SCO member countries, who exchanged views on deepening their collaboration amid evolving international dynamics. Special attention was given to refining joint initiatives, assessing recent progress, and laying the groundwork for the summit scheduled to take place in Tianjin.

In his address, Minister Nurtleu highlighted the SCO’s vital role in fostering sustainable development and regional stability. He expressed strong confidence in the Organization’s ability to build fruitful partnerships and help transform the SCO region into one characterized by peace and prosperity. Stressing the unique value of the “Shanghai Spirit,” Nurtleu noted, “I am convinced that the SCO will continue to strengthen its international authority and effectiveness as a multilateral institution with a unique model of equal cooperation.”

The Kazakh Foreign Minister also praised China’s systematic approach to implementing agreements reached during the Astana SCO Summit, held in July 2024. He underscored the necessity of sustained efforts to further develop the Organization’s institutions and enhance its overall activities, calling for continued progress on these fronts.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all member states to advance the SCO’s strategic goals and deepen cooperation ahead of the upcoming summit.
