Punjab Sports Development Committee Highlights New Schemes

The Punjab Sports Department, under the leadership of Secretary Muzaffar Khan Sial, held a key meeting of its Departmental Development Sub-Committee to review and advance major sports infrastructure projects across the province. The session was attended by Director General Sports Punjab Khizra Afzal Chaudhry, Deputy Secretary Planning Ghazala Kanwal, Deputy Director Tariq Khanzada, and officials from the Finance Department and Project Management Unit (PMU) Sports.

During the meeting, participants discussed a total of 38 new sports schemes aimed at enhancing sporting facilities throughout Punjab. According to Secretary Muzaffar Khan Sial, projects such as the construction of paddle tennis courts and climbing walls are nearing their final stages, marking significant progress in diversifying sports infrastructure.

A major highlight includes the upcoming construction of a three-story sports complex dedicated to table tennis, snooker, board games, and rowing, reflecting the government’s drive to provide state-of-the-art facilities for various sports disciplines.

Additional developments were outlined for different cities. Gymnasiums will be built in Vehari and Kot Addu, while efforts are underway to restore the stadium in Jampur. Sialkot is set to receive new paddle courts, and a sports complex is planned for Liaqatpur in Rahim Yar Khan, underlining the wide geographic scope of the department’s initiatives.

Moreover, Secretary Sial revealed that commercial shops will be constructed alongside stadiums in several cities across Punjab to further support the sustainability of these facilities.

In closing, Muzaffar Khan Sial directed all officers to address and resolve any issues encountered during stadium constructions, including those at Bhurban Murree and other ongoing sites, emphasizing the department’s commitment to overcoming obstacles and delivering world-class sports venues in Punjab.
