**Pakistan and Ethiopia Mark Deepening Green Cooperation at Special Forum in Islamabad**
Pakistan and Ethiopia have reaffirmed their commitment to environmental sustainability and mutual partnership through a special Green Legacy Forum and Plantation Ceremony, held at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) in Islamabad. The event highlighted the significant advances made by Ethiopia under the Green Legacy Initiative of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and celebrated the growing collaborative ties between the two nations.
During the ceremony, Mr. Amir Muhyuddin, Secretary of the Ministry of National Food Security & Research, underscored the importance of the partnership and commended Ethiopia’s proactive climate policies. He praised Ethiopia’s achievements under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, noting the nation’s historical resilience as the only African country never colonized—a resilience now reflected in its ambitious climate actions.
Mr. Muhyuddin highlighted Ethiopia’s success in increasing its forest cover from 17% to 24%, as well as the completion of one of Africa’s largest hydropower projects, which now powers much of East Africa. He described Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative as a global model, calling on Pakistan and the wider world to learn from and replicate these impactful environmental efforts.
Drawing attention to the shared existential threat posed by climate change, the Secretary reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to building a climate-resilient future through international collaborations. He emphasized that collective action and shared dedication to sustainability were vital for addressing this global challenge.
Reflecting on the historical and spiritual ties between Pakistan and Ethiopia, Mr. Muhyuddin cited the legacy of Hazrat Bilal Habshi (RA), a revered figure symbolizing the deep-rooted bonds between Ethiopia and the Muslim world.
He concluded by urging all stakeholders to strengthen global partnerships and take joint action for a sustainable future, highlighting that only through unity and cooperation could both countries—and the world—effect meaningful environmental change.
