PTCL Telenor Merger Review Moves Forward with CCP

The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) is intensifying its review of PTCL’s proposed full acquisition of Telenor Pakistan and Orion Towers, as part of its ongoing Phase II Merger Review process. During a recent hearing, PTCL’s top executives outlined their business strategy, highlighted expected operational efficiencies, and submitted regulatory financial statements for examination by the commission.
The CCP panel, led by Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu and members Salman Amin and Abdul Rashid Sheikh, questioned PTCL’s management about key elements of the transaction. The commission focused on understanding how the acquisition might affect market competition and requested further details on critical aspects of the proposed deal.
This heightened scrutiny by the CCP is aimed at ensuring that the merger would not adversely impact competitive dynamics within Pakistan’s telecommunications sector. The commission’s review seeks to provide a thorough assessment before any further steps are taken regarding the acquisition.
