Anthropic Blocks OpenAI from Claude API Over GPT-5 Concerns

Anthropic has cut off OpenAI’s access to its Claude API over allegations that OpenAI was using the tool to help develop its next-generation AI system, GPT-5. The move represents a rare and public dispute between two leading artificial intelligence firms, highlighting rising tensions as competition in the sector intensifies.
According to Anthropic, OpenAI’s engineers had been leveraging the Claude model to evaluate coding and safety features—reportedly as benchmarks while preparing the upcoming GPT-5 release. Anthropic claims this practice violates its terms, which specifically prohibit rivals from using its API to improve competing AI products.
While some access may remain for the purpose of safety testing, Anthropic has now blocked OpenAI from using the Claude API in its internal workflows. This decision signals not only a firm stance on ethical use but also a strategic effort to limit competitor advantages as both companies race to develop more advanced artificial intelligence systems.
