Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) marked the 78th Independence Day with a vibrant ceremony that honored both national pride and the contributions of the armed forces. The event included a flag-hoisting ceremony, special prayers, and a call for unity and progress among the university community.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, joined by Registrar Muhammad Aqeel Sultan, university officials, faculty, staff, and students, led the raising of the national flag. In his address, Dr. Zaman highlighted the significance of Independence Day, describing it as not only a celebration of freedom but also a powerful reminder of the nation’s sacrifices and the need for ongoing dedication to the country’s development.
Dr. Zaman paid special tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces for their steadfast defense of the nation. He recognized the leadership of Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir and the recent successes of national defense operations, including Operation Banyan Marsus and Marka-e-Haq, noting that these achievements reflect the strength and preparedness of Pakistan’s military. He also urged everyone to honor the martyrs who have laid down their lives for the country’s security.
The celebrations featured a cake-cutting ceremony and a tree plantation drive at both the main campus and the sub-campus in Attock, symbolizing growth, unity, and environmental responsibility. Dr. Zaman addressed the youth, emphasizing the essential role of education in nation-building and affirming that a well-educated population is the backbone of a strong Pakistan. He reiterated the university’s commitment to providing modern educational facilities and fostering academic excellence and innovation.
The festivities concluded with a collective pledge from the university community to uphold the values of independence, serve the nation with dedication, and strive for a prosperous future for Pakistan.
