Kazakhstan Teachers Recognized as Key to Future Education

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has highlighted the vital role of teachers in shaping the country’s future during the annual Conference of Teachers. He stressed the importance of elevating the teaching profession, providing universal access to quality education, and embracing digital innovation to develop a generation that is both competent and socially responsible.
Speaking at the event, which attracted approximately 1,500 participants and thousands more joining in panel discussions, the President commended educators for their dedication and national contribution. The conference this year focuses on building an honest and professional society through education, reflecting the motto: “The future of education: an honest citizen, a professional specialist.”
Tokayev noted significant progress in improving the education sector over the last four years. Teachers have seen their salaries double, more than 500,000 receive bonuses, and administrative duties have been lightened to allow more focus on teaching. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further elevate the status of teaching in society.
Investment in education has also increased substantially, with the budget tripling since 2019. The government has commissioned 1,200 schools in recent years, launched the Schools of the Future program to construct 217 new schools—128 of which are already completed—and modernized more than 4,000 rural schools. These efforts aim to ensure equal educational opportunities for children across the country.
The conference, organized by the Ministry of Education, is centered on mapping the present and future of Kazakhstan’s education system. It will conclude with the adoption of a resolution focused on raising the status and prestige of teachers nationwide.
