UN Mobilizes Emergency Aid for Pakistan Flood Response

A United Nations delegation visited Hafizabad in Punjab to assess the ongoing response to the recent floods in Pakistan. The United Nations has allocated $600,000 from its emergency funds to assist the Government of Pakistan and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in their relief efforts.

The visiting team included senior representatives such as High Commissioner Mohamed Yahya, World Food Programme Pakistan’s Coco Ushiyama, and Carlos Geha from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Pakistan. During their visit, the officials reviewed the situation on the ground and discussed strategies to ensure effective coordination and distribution of emergency aid.

The financial support announced by the United Nations will help bolster relief operations, providing essential supplies and services to those most affected by the floods. According to the United Nations, this funding will be used to address urgent humanitarian needs, including access to food, clean water, and shelter for displaced communities.

The United Nations’ commitment underscores the importance of international collaboration in responding to natural disasters and highlights ongoing efforts to support the people of Pakistan during this challenging time.
