Strengthening Child Rights Through Media Training

This week in Lahore, UNICEF joined the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC Pakistan) and the National Commission on the Status of Women, Islamabad to bring together 44 journalists from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab for an intensive media training on child rights and gender equality. The sessions were designed to build practical skills for reporting on sensitive issues while centring the dignity of children.

Trainers guided participants through ethical reporting practices, techniques for amplifying children’s voices and approaches to cover gender equality without sensationalism. Emphasis was placed on how accurate, respectful coverage can shape public attitudes and strengthen protections for children across Pakistan.

Journalists engaged in rich discussions and raised questions about consent, privacy and cultural context when reporting on minors. The cross-provincial participation enhanced mutual understanding of regional challenges and highlighted the role of the media in promoting child rights in diverse communities.

Organisers thanked all participants for their commitment to responsible and inclusive storytelling and encouraged reporters to apply the training in their everyday work. Media coverage that respects children’s dignity and foregrounds gender equality will help ensure every child’s story is told with care and impact, and organisers look forward to seeing these stories published across national and regional outlets.
