Pharmacists’ Body Takes Up Professional Issues with Health Minister

A delegation of the Pakistan Pharmacists Association, led by its President Alamgir Rao, called on Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal to discuss professional matters concerning pharmacists, pharmacy services and challenges facing the health system in Pakistan.

The delegation included Professor Dr Furqan Hashmi, General Secretary Imran Ahmed Mumtaz, Dr Kaleemullah, Khaqan Babar, Shifa Khan Bangash, Mahesh Kumar and Ms Masiha Noreen.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on framing and implementing uniform standards across the country for the registration and licensing of pharmacists as well as pharmacy services. The delegation also presented suggestions aimed at bringing consistency to pharmacist registration, licensing and pharmacy services.

The representatives further discussed the proposal to allow qualified pharmacists to prescribe medicines within a limited scope.

Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal appreciated the services of the Pakistan Pharmacists Association across the country. He said full cooperation would be extended at the relevant forums for resolving the professional issues of pharmacists and the policy matters discussed during the meeting.

The minister said pharmacists have an important role in the health system and their services are commendable. He also stated that the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan is being modernised and digitised.

The delegation appreciated the ongoing reforms being carried out by Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal in the health sector and welcomed the positive assurance given by him.
