Driving Brand Power in Pakistan’s Economy

Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani told delegates at the 16th Annual Brands of the Year Awards in Islamabad that brands form the backbone of a nation’s economy and are essential tools of economic diplomacy. Speaking as the chief guest, he said that growing Brand Power is central to projecting a positive image of Pakistan abroad and unlocking new markets for local businesses.

He highlighted how achievements across sports, information technology, manufacturing and services have helped Pakistani brands carve an identity on the global stage. According to the Chairman, this rise reflects sustained research, innovation, design and smart marketing — the core ingredients that turn products into trusted brands.

Addressing the younger generation, he said Pakistan’s youth possess the creativity and technological skills required to expand Brand Power. He pointed out that the rapid growth of the digital economy and e-commerce now connects entrepreneurs in smaller cities and rural areas to international buyers, enabling more Pakistani labels and services to compete globally.

On the role of the state, Chairman Gilani emphasised that government should not interfere in business but must create an enabling environment for trade and investment. He urged policymakers to focus on building both physical and digital infrastructure so that the next generation can translate ideas into scalable brands that enhance Pakistan’s economic resilience.

Stressing quality and integrity, he reminded the audience that “a product is what you sell, but a brand is why the consumer chooses to buy it.” He argued that Pakistani companies must prioritise trust and quality over low-price competition to win long-term success in international markets.

Chairman Gilani also praised the Brands Foundation for promoting brand culture and business excellence, congratulating award-winning companies and entrepreneurs as architects of a confident and dynamic Pakistan. The ceremony concluded with awards presented to leading brands across industry and commerce, attended by figures from industry, IT, media and the business community.
