Environmental Team Inspects Hospital Waste Management in Islamabad

Pakistan’s Environmental Monitoring Team (EMT) has carried out inspections of five healthcare facilities in Islamabad’s F-10 Markaz and F-11 areas to assess their hospital waste management practices. The inspections aimed to ensure compliance with guidelines set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The facilities inspected included Excel Labs, IDC, Shifa International Labs, SARF Hospital, and Maroof International Hospital. According to the EMT, most of the healthcare centers were following EPA standards by using color-coded bins and maintaining proper waste segregation and storage procedures.
However, the inspection found that Maroof International Hospital was not fully compliant with EPA regulations, particularly in the area of waste segregation. The EMT is collaborating closely with the hospital’s administration to resolve these shortcomings.
Pak-EPA has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sustainable waste management practices in healthcare institutions to protect both public health and the environment.
