ISSI Leads NRTC Visit to Boost Indigenous Telecom

Islamabad, 13 January 2026 — An ISSI delegation led by Ambassador Khalid Mahmood conducted a study engagement at the National Radio Telecommunication Corporation to assess Pakistan’s indigenous radio and telecommunication capabilities. The NRTC visit focused on innovation, self-reliance and the strategic relevance of secure communications for national decision making.

Ambassador Khalid Mahmood commended NRTC’s sustained efforts in developing homegrown technological solutions and highlighted the organisation’s pivotal role in reinforcing the country’s defence and security architecture through technical excellence. He emphasised that secure, resilient and indigenous communication systems are a vital pillar of national security, enabling effective command and control as well as informed strategic choices.

Brigadier Azmat Shabbir, Managing Director of NRTC, provided a detailed briefing on the organisation’s mandate, core functions and ongoing projects. He described NRTC’s contributions to both defence and civilian communication infrastructure, outlined emerging technological trends and identified key challenges in the telecom sector while pointing towards future directions for innovation and capability development.

The NRTC visit fostered constructive dialogue on enhancing domestic manufacturing, research partnerships and workforce skills to support Pakistan’s telecom ecosystem. The engagement concluded with an exchange of mementos, reflecting mutual appreciation and a shared commitment to continued collaboration in support of the country’s technological and strategic advancement.
