Brooklyn Mela Celebrates Pakistan Independence and Honors Armed Forces

The Pakistani-American community in New York celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day with a vibrant Brooklyn Mela, bringing together hundreds from across the tri-state area for a day of cultural festivities and national pride. Hosted by the Allama Iqbal Community Center (AICC NY), the event featured music, children’s performances, and a bustling cultural bazaar highlighting traditional food, jewelry, and clothing, reflecting Pakistan’s rich heritage.

Speaking on behalf of Pakistan’s Consul General Mr. Aamer Ahmed Atozai, Deputy Consul General Mr. Umar Sheikh addressed the attendees, dedicating this year’s Independence Day to the bravery and sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces. He highlighted the significance of the recent success in Operation “Bunyan al-Marsous,” describing it as proof of Pakistan’s determination and capability to defend its sovereignty. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace but assured that any aggression would be met with a firm response.

Mr. Sheikh also acknowledged the important contributions of the Pakistani-American community, praising their philanthropic efforts, investments, and advocacy that continue to support Pakistan’s development. He encouraged the community to maintain their unity and active engagement for the nation’s continued progress.

The Deputy Consul General expressed his gratitude to the AICC NY and its leadership for organizing the event, commending their efforts in bringing the community together to celebrate Pakistan’s independence and promote cultural understanding in a lively, family-friendly environment.
