Federal Ombudsperson Workplace Harassment Awareness

The Federal Ombudsperson Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment held an awareness session at the National Highways and Motorway Police Training College in Sheikhupura to brief police officers on the legal framework for preventing workplace harassment and promoting gender equality. The event brought together senior and mid-level officers and featured a keynote call to action from Federal Ombudsperson Fauzia Viqar, who urged active use of legal channels for redress. The session, led by the Secretariat’s law officer, outlined responsibilities for creating a respectful and safe working environment.

The training was attended by Superintendents of Police, Deputy Superintendents, inspectors and sub‑inspectors from the National Highways and Motorway Police, reflecting an emphasis on building awareness across ranks. Organizers stressed that preventing harassment requires both institutional policies and individual accountability.

Federal Ombudsperson Fauzia Viqar delivered the keynote address, encouraging officers to make full use of the remedies and procedures available under the 2010 anti-harassment legislation. She stressed that timely reporting and proper application of legal tools are essential to protect victims and uphold professional standards.

Law Officer Mohsin Sheikh led a detailed review of the legal provisions related to harassment and gender-based discrimination, explaining the obligations of employers and officials under the law. The session emphasized that ensuring dignity, equality and safety at work is a shared responsibility and reinforced the guiding principle that a safe workplace is everyone’s right.

Participants were urged to implement the guidance within their units and to promote a workplace culture that prevents harassment, supports survivors, and fosters equal treatment for all personnel.
