Pasban Watan Acts to Defend Press Freedom

A delegation from Pasban Watan Pakistan visited the National Press Club in Islamabad to express solidarity with journalists after recent incidents in which police were accused of mistreating reporters and entering the press club premises to use force against media professionals. The visit underscored concerns about the safety of reporters and the need to uphold Press Freedom in the capital.
The Pasban Watan Pakistan delegation included Mukhtar Ahmad Awan as chairman, Syed Nabi Shah Tarmizi as general secretary, Rukhsanda Tasneem as information secretary, Tahir Mahmood who leads the Public Aid Committee, vice president Rana Ishtiaq, youth president Syed Bakhtiar Shah and central leader Ijaz Ahmad. The group met with affected journalists and conveyed the organisation’s support for media safety and independent reporting.
Speaking to reporters, chairman Mukhtar Ahmad Awan said Pasban Watan Pakistan stands firmly for freedom of expression and condemned the use of force against journalists. He emphasized that any assault on media personnel is unacceptable and must be addressed promptly to protect Press Freedom and democratic norms.
The delegation called on authorities to investigate the episode, hold those responsible to account, and ensure that the National Press Club and other journalistic spaces remain secure. Pasban Watan urged law enforcement to respect the rights of the press and to take concrete steps that reinforce journalist safety and accountability for future incidents.
