Unknown armed attackers struck in Gilgit city near CPO Chowk today, targeting the central Ameer Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat Gilgit Baltistan, Qazi Nisar Ahmad. Four police personnel accompanying him, including a civilian driver, were wounded in the assault.
Security officers on duty responded with courage and professional skill and immediately returned fire. Some of the attackers were wounded during the exchange but managed to flee with the aid of accomplices. All injured were rushed to hospital and are reported to be stable by the grace of God.
Under direct orders from the IGP Gilgit Baltistan, GB Police have launched comprehensive operations to identify and apprehend the perpetrators who attacked Qazi Nisar. Investigating teams have taken two vehicles used in the incident into custody and collected key evidence to support the probe.
SSP Ishaq Hussain appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid spreading rumours and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately, stressing that public cooperation is essential to ending such crimes. Police officials say they are fully mobilised and pursuing a coordinated strategy to bring the suspects to justice.
Authorities reiterated that security forces remain committed to protecting life and property and maintaining peace across Gilgit Baltistan, and that further updates will follow as the investigation progresses, InshaAllah.
