Strengthening Denmark Pakistan Trade and Climate Ties
The Danish Ambassador Maja Derrous Mortensen made her first official visit to Karachi in a packed programme that deepened Denmark Pakistan engagement across trade, logistics and climate policy. The visit underscored a mutual commitment to strengthening commercial ties and embedding sustainability in economic planning.
During meetings with leading Danish firms active in Pakistan — Novonesis, Shipco and DSV — the Ambassador received detailed briefings on bio-solutions, shipping and logistics operations. Company representatives shared first-hand accounts of managing large-scale activities across Pakistan and highlighted opportunities to scale supply chain efficiency while meeting local market needs.
The Ambassador also met key Pakistani partners of Danish industry, including MAJ International, which collaborates with Danish names such as Arla Foods, Palsgaard, AAL and Novonesis, and Soorty Enterprises, one of Pakistan’s major denim manufacturers and a supplier to the Danish brand Bestseller. These discussions focused on strengthening industrial links, enhancing export pathways and supporting value chains that benefit Sindh’s manufacturing and trade sectors.
Ambassador Mortensen attended a Danish-funded workshop organised by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) on Mainstreaming Climate Action in Economic and Fiscal Planning. The session is part of Denmark’s continued backing of efforts to ship Pakistan’s Climate Prosperity Plan forward under an SDG-focused initiative, emphasising the need to integrate climate measures into budgeting and policy at provincial and national levels.
The visit concluded with a courtesy call on the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, where conversations centred on exploring further avenues for collaboration in Sindh, from sustainable industry practices to improved logistics and trade facilitation. The programme reinforced strong partnerships, shared priorities and a common vision for sustainable growth between the two countries, signalling practical follow-up across trade, logistics and climate cooperation in the months ahead.
