FMG Reforms Drive Ahead After Stakeholder Meeting

A meeting of all stakeholders of Team Justice for FMGs convened today with Chief Coordinator Dr. Rafey Sher, President Dr. Rafaqat Gujjar and Patron-in-Chief Dr. Zeeshan Noor Malik in attendance to discuss the challenges confronting foreign medical graduates and students studying abroad.

Parents and students raised three central concerns that the gathering addressed in detail: the call for PRMP or increasing the number of NRE exams from two to at least three to prevent unnecessary career delays, the demand for disclosure of marks for future attempts to ensure transparency, and the sudden closure of internship opportunities that is mainly affecting Chinese medical graduates and creating widespread uncertainty. Attendees stressed that clear policies and predictable paths are essential for young doctors planning careers in Pakistan.

All stakeholders agreed to take a united approach to engage relevant authorities and press for practical FMG reforms. While acknowledging the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s efforts to uphold healthcare standards, participants emphasized that quality assurances must not come at the expense of graduates’ opportunities or students’ ability to plan their futures. The current leadership of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council was recognized for its maturity and urged to consider the issues raised with care.

The meeting also addressed a protest planned by graduates and medical students on January 15, 2026, and stakeholders announced support for the demonstration while urging it to remain peaceful and focused solely on securing better facilitation and clearer policies from regulators. Organisers were encouraged to keep the demand for FMG reforms constructive and solution-oriented.

The session closed with Dr. Rafey Sher, Dr. Zeeshan Noor Malik and Dr. Rafaqat Gujjar expressing optimism that concerted advocacy will lead to positive policy adjustments, allowing foreign medical graduates to integrate successfully into Pakistan’s healthcare system and contribute effectively to patient care across the country.
