Driving Action for Tobacco Control in Pakistan
SPARC convened a two-day consultative session on the WHO Global Tobacco Epidemic Report and best practices for TAPS and Graphic Health Warnings, bringing together representatives from federal and provincial ministries, the World Health Organization, media, academia, civil society and youth organizations from across Pakistan.
Addressing participants as Chief Guest, Mr Murtaza Solangi, Spokesperson to the President of Pakistan, urged a comprehensive ban on Tobacco Advertising, Promotion and Sponsorship and stressed the need for larger Graphic Health Warnings to strengthen prevention efforts and protect public health.
Participants took part in interactive group activities, including visits to local markets to observe TAPS and GHW violations in real-world settings. Delegates shared practical recommendations focused on stronger enforcement, clearer regulatory guidance and improved monitoring to close gaps at both federal and provincial levels.
The session highlighted the importance of coordinated action between government agencies, WHO partners, media and civil society to advance Tobacco Control. All stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to sustained enforcement and public education to move toward a healthier, tobacco-free Pakistan.
