ISC Ambassador Briefs UN on Upcoming Parliamentary Conference

Ambassador and Advisor to the Chairman Senate, Ms. Mishbah Khar, held a meeting with the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan, Mr. Mohamed Yahya, to discuss preparations for the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) and explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and the UN.

During the meeting, Ms. Khar provided a detailed briefing to Mr. Yahya regarding the forthcoming ISC, which is scheduled to take place in Islamabad next year. She explained that the conference aims to bring together parliamentary leaders from across the region, fostering dialogue on issues of mutual interest and enabling participants to strengthen cooperation and build regional partnerships.

Ms. Khar, accompanied by Senior Director General Protocol Mr. Tariq Bin Waheed, emphasized that the ISC will serve as a vital platform for parliamentarians to address shared challenges, promote multilateral collaboration, and create meaningful institutional linkages. Formal invitations were extended to parliamentary leaders, underscoring the conference’s role in advancing constructive regional engagement.

The discussion also focused on the humanitarian impact of recent torrential rains and floods in Pakistan. Ms. Khar highlighted significant losses faced by the country and appealed to the United Nations for increased support in accelerating relief and recovery efforts. She acknowledged the UN’s continued support for developing nations and urged the organization to help Pakistan’s vulnerable communities during this crisis.

Both parties discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation and considered the possibility of launching joint initiatives in a variety of sectors. Mr. Mohamed Yahya expressed appreciation for the briefing and invitation, assuring Ms. Khar of the United Nations’ full support and active involvement in the upcoming conference.
