Pakistan Sports Board Employees Stage Nationwide Protest

Employees of the Pakistan Sports Board have launched a nationwide protest at both the board’s Islamabad headquarters and regional offices, demanding approval of long-overdue promotions and the payment of promised allowances. The workers, represented by the All Pakistan Sports Board Employees Union, accuse authorities of neglecting their concerns and vow to escalate their actions if their demands are not addressed.
Union leaders, including Secretary General Anjum Shehzad Gujjar, President Raja Ejaz Ahmed, and Chairman Waseem Ahmed Mughal, assert that staff have grown frustrated by repeated delays in convening the Departmental Promotion Committee, which is responsible for advancing employee careers. They are also calling for the immediate release of the Sports Allowance, which had been agreed upon by the board’s own decision-making bodies.
Symbolic protests began with employees wearing black armbands to highlight their dissatisfaction. The campaign has since broadened, with workers holding daily demonstrations, joint meetings with the National Labour Federation, and engaging other labor organizations. Union leaders warn that, if management continues to postpone action, the movement will escalate to a full sit-in and lockout. They have held the board’s administration solely responsible for any further unrest that may occur due to continued inaction.
The union insists that the protests will continue until employee rights, including overdue promotions and allowances, are fully granted. Workers describe the situation as a critical test for the Sports Board’s administration, emphasizing that the resolution of the issue now depends on management’s willingness to address staff grievances and restore workplace fairness.
