National Assembly WPC Hails Formation of Gilgit-Baltistan Women’s Caucus
Islamabad, 21 August 2026: Secretary Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Dr Shahida Rehmani, has congratulated the Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly on the constitution of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Women’s Parliamentary Caucus.
Dr Rehmani welcomed the notification issued by the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly on 11 August 2026, describing the establishment of the caucus as an important step towards strengthening women’s participation in parliamentary affairs and providing a joint platform to women legislators in Gilgit-Baltistan.
She appreciated the role and support of the Speaker in bringing women parliamentarians from different political parties together under the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus platform.
Dr Rehmani said the National Assembly Women’s Parliamentary Caucus believed in promoting coordination and solidarity among women parliamentarians across Pakistan. She reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly WPC to extend full support and cooperation to the newly constituted Gilgit-Baltistan Women’s Parliamentary Caucus.
She also underlined the importance of knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, peer learning and technical support to strengthen the institutional role of the caucus and improve the effective participation of women parliamentarians in legislative and parliamentary processes.
Dr Rehmani expressed the hope that the Gilgit-Baltistan Women’s Parliamentary Caucus would play an effective role in advancing women’s rights, gender-responsive legislation and matters concerning women and girls in Gilgit-Baltistan.
She further expressed her desire to strengthen linkages between the National Assembly WPC and the Gilgit-Baltistan Women’s Parliamentary Caucus through joint consultations, learning initiatives and continued parliamentary cooperation.
“The constitution of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Women’s Parliamentary Caucus is an encouraging development for women’s political participation. The National Assembly Women’s Parliamentary Caucus stands ready to support and work closely with our sisters in Gilgit-Baltistan to further strengthen this important parliamentary platform,” Dr Shahida Rehmani said.
She again congratulated the Speaker and all members of the newly constituted Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Women’s Parliamentary Caucus and wished them success in their parliamentary work.
Mrs Sadia Danish, Mrs Sobia Jabeen, Mrs Dilshad Bano, Mrs Sajida Bedum, Mrs Kulsoom Jahangir and Miss Jenifer Bahadur are members of the Gilgit-Baltistan WPC.
