Boosting WASH Resilience across Pakistan
On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Ms. Samia Nazir, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), visited the KOICA Pakistan Office to discuss strategies for strengthening climate resilience in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene sector.
The Ministry underlined that Pakistan remains one of the most climate-vulnerable countries, and recent frequent floods have intensified threats to public health by disrupting access to safe drinking water and sanitation. MoCC emphasized that reinforcing WASH resilience is now an urgent national priority to reduce the health and infrastructure impacts of recurring floods.
KOICA reaffirmed its commitment to closely collaborate with MoCC and other relevant stakeholders to identify, develop and scale sustainable projects that build WASH resilience. Discussions focused on tailored interventions to protect water supplies, improve sanitation services and support hygiene measures in flood-affected communities.
These coordinated efforts aim to strengthen Pakistan’s overall climate response capacity and help ensure a stable provision of clean and safe water for vulnerable populations. By prioritizing WASH resilience in planning and programming, both institutions seek to reduce long-term risks and improve community preparedness against future climate shocks.
