Gillani Luncheon Brings Senators Together

Islamabad, 30 September 2025 — Acting President Yousaf Raza Gillani hosted a luncheon at Aiwan-e-Sadr for senators representing multiple political parties. The Gillani luncheon brought together parliamentary figures including Senator Sherry Rehman (PPP), Senator Manzoor Ahmad Kakar (BAP), Senator Ali Zafar (PTI), Senator Atta-ur-Rehman (JUI-F), Senator Hidayatullah (ANP) and Senator Aamir Chishti (MQM).

Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazir Tarar and Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry briefed participants on matters relating to their ministries and engaged in detailed exchanges with the senators.

Participants conducted a comprehensive review of the country’s political landscape alongside regional and global developments, while giving particular attention to ongoing relief and rehabilitation work in flood-affected areas. The discussion examined current measures for assistance, recovery priorities and coordination among federal and parliamentary stakeholders.

Speaking at the gathering, the acting president underscored that sustained parliamentary contact and cooperation are essential for addressing national challenges. He argued that comprehensive dialogue and collective action are not only vital to strengthen democratic institutions but are also necessary to advance public welfare.

The luncheon reiterated the need for political leadership to demonstrate unity during difficult times so that Pakistan can confront pressing challenges and stay on a path toward development and stability, with parliamentary collaboration playing a central role in those efforts.
