Advancing Interfaith Harmony Between Pakistan and France
Islamabad, October 1, 2025 — A meeting between Minister of State for Religious Affairs Khail Das Kohistani and French Ambassador Nicolas Gilli focused on practical proposals to promote interfaith harmony and lasting peace in Pakistan.
The delegation-level talks covered a range of measures aimed at empowering minority communities politically, socially and economically. Khail Das Kohistani highlighted recent steps by the government, noting that minority representatives have been included in both Punjab and federal cabinets and that the planned National Commission for Minorities will streamline resolution of community concerns. He also reiterated that minority religious festivals are observed at the government level and affirmed that minorities enjoy full freedom to live according to their faith and customs.
Ambassador Nicolas Gilli expressed sorrow over the human and material losses from recent floods and conveyed France’s readiness to support initiatives for minority welfare. He identified significant potential for religious tourism across Pakistan and offered French collaboration on conserving and restoring religious heritage sites. Both officials emphasized that cooperation on cultural heritage and tourism can complement efforts to strengthen interfaith harmony.
Participants agreed to continue bilateral dialogue and joint initiatives aimed at translating policy commitments into on-the-ground improvements for minority communities, while promoting Pakistan’s cultural and religious heritage through shared projects with France.
