Project Kuiper Moves to Connect Pakistan by 2026

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication confirmed that following a strategic meeting between Federal Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and a delegation from Amazon’s Project Kuiper, the initiative plans to launch satellite broadband services in Pakistan by the end of 2026.

Project Kuiper, Amazon’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite programme, intends to deploy a constellation of up to 3,236 satellites to deliver high-performance broadband. The service aims to offer speeds up to 400 Mbps through affordable user terminals, backed by a multi-billion-dollar global investment designed to reach underserved and remote communities.

The Kuiper team communicated its intention to establish ground infrastructure in Pakistan, including gateways and points of presence (PoPs), to ensure reliable connectivity and smooth integration with the country’s digital ecosystem. Local gateways and PoPs are expected to support consistent performance and facilitate partnerships with Pakistani service providers and operators.

Officials from the ministry highlighted the local impact of Project Kuiper, noting that enhanced connectivity will create new opportunities for the IT sector, spur innovation, and help bridge the digital divide by connecting schools, businesses, and rural areas that currently lack reliable broadband.

Federal Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja welcomed the investment as aligning with the government’s vision for a modern, connected Digital Pakistan. The Ministry of IT & Telecommunication reiterated its commitment to facilitating international collaborations that advance national connectivity goals and support the Prime Minister’s agenda for inclusive digital growth.
