Countries Sign Cybercrime Convention in Hanoi

The Signing Ceremony of the UN Cybercrime Convention concluded in Hanoi with 72 signatories, marking a landmark moment for global cooperation against online crime. Over two days, countries from every region stepped forward to join the first global treaty aimed at harmonising legal frameworks and enabling cross-border investigations. The Cybercrime Convention brings international focus to coordinated responses and capacity building.

For Pakistan’s policymakers, technology sector and legal community the development underlines the importance of aligning national law with international standards and strengthening technical collaboration. Observers in the region view the Cybercrime Convention as a platform for improved information sharing, mutual legal assistance and joint efforts to combat cyber-enabled threats.

While the signing marks an important beginning, sustained diplomatic engagement and resources will be needed to turn commitments under the Cybercrime Convention into effective action. The Hanoi ceremony with its 72 signatories sends a clear message that collective action remains essential to protect digital infrastructure and citizens worldwide.
