Enhancing Youth Safety with Instagram Teen Accounts
On 29th October 2025 in Islamabad, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman HI (M) SI, Chairman PTA, joined PTA members Muhammad Naveed (Member Finance) and Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar (Member Enforcement and Compliance) along with representatives from Meta, UNICEF, NCRC and other child protection stakeholders for the launch of Instagram’s “Teen Accounts” initiative to enhance online safety for youth in Pakistan.
The gathering highlighted a collaborative approach between the regulator and platform partners to promote safer digital experiences. PTA officials stressed that coordination with Meta, UNICEF and child protection organisations will be central to implementing the Teen Accounts measures across the country.
Speakers said the initiative aims to strengthen age-appropriate settings, reporting channels and awareness among parents and educators while PTA’s enforcement and compliance arm will monitor safeguards. Financial oversight and support for outreach and capacity building was noted as a priority by the Member Finance during discussions on the Teen Accounts rollout.
Representatives from NCRC and other child protection stakeholders underlined the importance of sustained cooperation to ensure that the Teen Accounts framework results in measurable improvements in everyday online safety for Pakistani young people.
