Tackling Fake News in Pakistan Media
Dr. Furqan Rao, Executive Director of the Center for Democracy and Climate Studies, engaged with students at RUDN University in Moscow to explore challenges facing Pakistan media and the spread of Fake News on social platforms.
The lecture brought together talented students of International Relations, Journalism, and Political Science to discuss how social media accelerates misinformation and what role journalists, academics, and citizens must play to uphold factual reporting in Pakistan.
Discussions focused on practical steps to strengthen media literacy, the responsibilities of content creators, and ways to identify and counter Fake News without undermining free expression. The session emphasized local relevance for Pakistani audiences and the need for collaborative solutions between media practitioners and policymakers.
Dr. Furqan Rao thanked RUDN University, also known as Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, for the opportunity to share insights and learn from an inspiring group of future leaders who are eager to confront misinformation and support a healthier information environment in Pakistan.
