Promoting Road Safety in Rawalpindi Today

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Accident Victims was observed by Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi under the direction of Secretary and Director General Emergency Services Department Punjab, Dr. Rizwan Naseer. The event highlighted the human cost of traffic collisions and the need for sustained Road Safety efforts across the district.

Engineer Sibghat Ullah, District Emergency Officer Rawalpindi, said road accidents remain a leading cause of deaths and injuries in Pakistan, noting a conservative estimate that one road traffic accident occurs every minute in the country. He emphasized how these incidents affect entire families, often leaving parents bereaved or caring for injured and disabled children.

Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi used the observance to reaffirm its operational readiness to respond immediately to road collisions and other emergencies. The team organized an awareness walk through key urban areas and distributed pamphlets to motorists and pedestrians to reinforce basic Road Safety practices.

During the outreach, officials urged motorcyclists to always wear helmets and avoid using mobile phones while riding. The message stressed preventive measures and adherence to traffic laws as essential steps to reduce fatalities and serious injuries on local roads.

Rescue 1122 reiterated its commitment to both emergency response and public education. The department said it will continue community-focused campaigns and training to improve Road Safety and lessen the long-term impact of road traffic accidents on Rawalpindi families.

The awareness activities were coordinated locally by Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi media staff, who called on citizens to support safer driving behaviors and report hazards to emergency services promptly.
