Driving Early Childhood Development Forward
A concentration workshop on Early Childhood Development (ECD) Guidelines was organised by the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives with support from UNICEF, the World Health Organization Pakistan and Aga Khan University to advance national guidance for young children.
The gathering brought together experts to refine Pakistan’s ECD Operational Guidelines and ensure they remain firmly evidence-based and focused on nurturing care, child health and early learning. Discussions aimed to align technical inputs so the Early Childhood Development framework reflects current research and practical priorities for caregivers and service providers.
Speakers and participants emphasised the need for clear operational guidance that supports coordinated action across sectors while remaining sensitive to local contexts. Strengthening evidence-based approaches in the guidelines is seen as central to delivering consistent early years services that benefit children and families across Pakistan.
By combining government leadership with UN and academic expertise, the workshop sought to build momentum for implementation of updated ECD guidance. Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to working together so every child in Pakistan can access nurturing care, health and early learning from the start of life.
