Iqbal Tribute Inspires Student Poets
On November 11, 2025 the Literary & Debating Society organised a moving Iqbal tribute to honour the vision, philosophy and literary achievements of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The ceremony brought together students and faculty to reflect on Iqbal’s lasting impact on Urdu literature and national thought.
Dr Mahmood ul Hassan Rana, Head of the Urdu Department at the National University of Modern Languages, served as the Chief Guest and delivered an insightful address that highlighted Iqbal’s contributions to Urdu literature and philosophy. His remarks connected Iqbal’s poetic themes to contemporary discourse and encouraged students to explore Iqbal’s ideas with renewed interest.
A Taht-ul-Lafz Competition formed the heart of the programme, where students recited selected verses of Iqbal with emotion and interpretive skill. Eman Esha from the Department of Chemistry won first place, Esha Mubashir of the Department of Business Administration secured second, and Isha Aslam from the Department of Computer Science took third position. The performances showcased the depth of student engagement with Urdu poetry.
Ms Sanila Aslam, Focal Person of the Literary & Debating Society, opened the proceedings with a welcome note, while Dr Raza Ullah, Head of the Sociology & Political Science Department, brought the ceremony to a close with remarks that celebrated student talent and the continued relevance of Iqbal’s thought for Pakistan’s youth. The event reinforced the role of campus societies in keeping Urdu literature and philosophical reflection alive through student participation in activities like this Iqbal tribute.
