Launching Indonesian Book Corner in Islamabad

Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division Aurangzeb Khan Khichi inaugurated the Indonesian Book Corner at the National Library of Pakistan in Islamabad on 27 November 2025, a move that included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the National Library of Pakistan and the National Library of Indonesia.

Minister Khichi said the launch carried special significance as Pakistan and Indonesia mark 75 years of diplomatic relations. He described the Indonesian Book Corner as a cultural bridge that will give Pakistani readers access to Indonesia’s literature, heritage and intellectual traditions, and stressed that such initiatives reinforce people-to-people connections and institutional links between the two countries.

Ambassador Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo highlighted that the collection features books and reference material on Indonesia’s politics, economy, security, culture, tourism, foreign policy, culinary traditions and national development. He called the MoU a new beginning for institutional cooperation and expressed optimism that practical collaborations would follow from the arrangement.

The MoU between the two national libraries envisages enhanced cooperation through book exchanges, joint cultural activities, training programmes and research collaboration. The ceremony was attended by the Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad and Ambassador of Thailand Rongvudi Virabutr, ASEAN ambassadors and high commissioners, Prime Secretary of the National Library of Indonesia Joko Santoso, Director General of the National Library of Pakistan Muhammad Ali Shahzad Muzaffar, and other distinguished guests. The Indonesian Book Corner is expected to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen cultural diplomacy between the two brotherly nations.
