While clearing rubbish in the Nanger Ban Pura neighbourhood of Faisalabad, sanitation worker Nusrat Bibi discovered a sealed packet that contained bundles of banknotes. When the cash was counted it totalled nine lakh rupees.
Displaying clear worker honesty, Nusrat immediately informed her supervisor and delivered the packet to the cleaning company’s office instead of keeping it. Her prompt action allowed officials to secure the money and begin the process of locating the rightful owner.
The owner was traced in the same locality and explained the bundles had accidentally been thrown out during a house cleaning. After verification, the funds were returned and Nusrat’s integrity was acknowledged by officials and neighbours alike.
At a ceremony held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the owner presented one lakh rupees as a token of gratitude, the cleaning company awarded one lakh, and the Deputy Commissioner himself gave one lakh in recognition. The Deputy Commissioner also arranged employment for Nusrat’s son, underscoring the local administration’s support for honest conduct.
Nusrat Bibi’s actions have been widely praised across the city as a strong example of worker honesty and civic responsibility, a reminder that integrity in small acts strengthens public trust.
