Pakistan Advances Climate Action at UNEA7
Islamabad, 12 December 2025 — Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, represented the country at the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly in Nairobi, known as UNEA7, convened under the theme Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet. The forum brought together delegates from all 193 UN member states, alongside civil society, scientific experts, development partners and the private sector to negotiate global policies and reinforce international environmental law.
Speaking in high-level deliberations, Dr. Musadik Malik stressed the urgency of immediate climate action for vulnerable nations and communities. Climate action is no longer a choice, it is a necessity. Nature will continue on its course. If we commit injustice against nature, nature will not care. It is we who will ultimately pay the price.
He highlighted Pakistan’s growing climate vulnerabilities and called for robust adaptation measures, resilience building and fair access to climate finance to avert disproportionate human, economic and ecological losses. The minister urged that science-based solutions and strengthened international cooperation are essential to enhance adaptation capacity in developing countries.
Dr. Malik reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with the international community to translate UNEA7 commitments into practical outcomes, including predictable finance, capacity building and strengthened multilateral environmental governance. He emphasised that coordinated global financing and policy action are critical to protect communities, livelihoods and ecosystems across Pakistan.
The minister’s interventions at UNEA7 sought to elevate Pakistan’s priorities within global environmental discussions while advancing tangible support for national adaptation plans and resilience initiatives on the ground.
