Empowering Brick Kiln Children Through Sport
The final stop of the Brick Kiln Sports festival in Multan gathered children from brick kiln communities, their families and neighbours for a day of play, culture and togetherness. The event gave children an open space to run, laugh and express themselves away from daily hardships, underscoring the importance of recreation and belonging in vulnerable communities.
Cultural performances by both children and brick kiln workers brought warmth and local colour to the celebrations, while games and activities allowed youngsters to build confidence and enjoy simple childhood pleasures. The Brick Kiln Sports initiative aimed to create moments of dignity and joy for participants who rarely have access to structured play or public celebration.
The event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Women University Multan, Professor Dr. Kalsoom Paracha, and drew representatives from social welfare, education, labour, sports departments and civil society. Their presence reflected a shared commitment to child rights and community empowerment and highlighted the need for coordinated support for brick kiln families in Punjab.
As the closing event of a series that travelled to multiple communities, the Multan gathering reaffirmed the value of safe, inclusive spaces that nurture confidence and happiness for every child. Local organisers and attendees said the Brick Kiln Sports festival strengthened community bonds and provided a visible reminder that play and cultural expression are essential to child development.
Organisers and local partners emphasised that sustained attention from government and civil society is needed to turn one-off events into ongoing support for education, welfare and safe recreation for brick kiln communities across the region.
