Advancing Legal Education With University of London

Senator Azam Nazir Tarar, Federal Minister for Law and Justice, met with a delegation from the University of London led by Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Philip Allmendinger to discuss deepening collaboration in legal education. The delegation included regional adviser Saad Wasim, and the meeting was attended by Director of the Directorate of Legal Education Barrister Asama Malik.

The talks focused on strengthening cooperation through joint and partnership-based academic programmes that will raise the standard of legal education in Pakistan. On the advice of the Directorate of Legal Education, Barrister Asama Malik informed the minister about plans to include a Pakistani law module within the University of London’s LLB (Hons) curriculum to ensure greater local relevance for students pursuing international qualifications.

Senator Azam Nazir Tarar highlighted the importance of blending on-campus activities with distance learning to expand access and flexibility for students. He noted that enhancing the quality of legal education can help create sustainable revenue streams for institutions while increasing access to globally recognised qualifications for Pakistani graduates.

Delegates discussed faculty development and capacity building, including faculty exchange and training programmes aimed at improving teaching standards and practical skills. Professor Philip Allmendinger expressed appreciation for the constructive dialogue, and the Federal Minister assured full Pakistani cooperation to foster meaningful, long-term academic partnerships between local institutions and the University of London.

Officials said the collaboration aims to translate discussions into concrete steps such as curriculum inclusion, training initiatives and exchange programmes that will collectively improve legal education standards and open broader opportunities for law students and academics in Pakistan.
