The session was chaired by Ms. Kiran Imran Dar, MNA, Convener of the group, and attended by Members of Parliament Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, Makhdoom Tahir Rashid ud Din, Dr. Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro, Mr. Abdul Aleem Khan, Ms. Kiran Haider, Mr. Naveed Aamir Jeeva, Ms. Shaista Khan, Ms. Akhtar Bibi and Ms. Neelam. The Convener opened the meeting by praising the Speaker’s initiative in establishing the forum and stressing the importance of early, structured parliamentary engagement to strengthen bilateral ties.

Ms. Kiran Imran Dar urged that the Mission of Pakistan in Mauritius, working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, formally propose the establishment of a counterpart parliamentary friendship group in the Seychelles National Assembly. She also recommended arranging an interaction with the Honorary Consul of Seychelles in Karachi to enhance coordination and parliamentary outreach at the provincial level.

The High Commissioner of Pakistan to Mauritius, who is also accredited to Seychelles, joined virtually and provided a detailed briefing on Seychelles’ political and economic landscape, helping Members assess opportunities for bilateral cooperation. The briefing served as a foundation for focused parliamentary diplomacy and informed discussion on priority sectors.

Members explored avenues for trade and investment, highlighting promising prospects in fisheries development and blue economy initiatives. Discussion identified value-added food processing, rice, textiles and canned goods as potential areas for collaboration that could benefit Pakistani exporters and Seychellois markets alike.

Delegates also recommended programmes to build people-to-people links, including youth development initiatives, educational exchanges, vocational training and scholarship opportunities. Emphasis was placed on institutional linkages and capacity building to ensure sustainable, long-term engagement between the two countries.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to progressively strengthen Pakistan Seychelles relations through continued parliamentary engagement, targeted economic cooperation and sustained coordination with relevant national and international stakeholders.
