Riphah Delegation Leads Senate House Visit

A 45-member delegation from Riphah International University visited Parliament House in Islamabad on 27 January 2026, receiving a warm welcome from Senate Secretariat officials. The visit provided students and faculty with a close look at the workings of Pakistan’s upper house and its role in the federation.

Jamil Ahmed Khoso, Joint Secretary of the Senate Secretariat, delivered a detailed briefing on the Senate’s procedures, functions, and the legislative process. He explained how members of the Senate are elected, the role of standing committees, and how the parliamentary system advances legislation to address public issues. During the Senate House visit delegates were encouraged to engage and raised questions about parliamentary practice and institutional responsibilities.

The delegation actively participated in a sustained question-and-answer session, where officials responded with comprehensive and satisfactory explanations. This interactive segment deepened participants’ understanding of how the Senate contributes to governance and the protection of provincial interests as a symbol of the federation.

The group also toured the Senate Museum, where curators outlined stages of legislation, the Senate’s constitutional role, and the evolution of parliamentary institutions in Pakistan. A documentary on the history of the upper house was screened, and delegates showed particular interest in the displayed busts of notable national figures and the archival photographs tracing legislative milestones.

During the visit to the Senate Hall, delegates were briefed on parliamentary traditions, procedural decorum and key stages of lawmaking. The delegation was also guided along Gali-e-Dastoor, gaining additional context about Pakistan’s parliamentary history and democratic development.

At the conclusion of the Senate House visit, participants commended the Senate Secretariat for its efforts to strengthen democratic values, institutional transparency and parliamentary capacity. Delegates described the visit as highly informative and expressed gratitude for the Secretariat’s guidance and cooperation throughout the programme.
