Tourism Festival Energises Islamabad Crowd
The Pakistan Tourism, Sports & Family Festival 2026 concluded at the Jinnah Sports Complex in Islamabad after two days of lively activities that showcased the country’s cultural diversity and recreational potential. Organised by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination with the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation, provincial tourism departments and a range of public and private partners, the Tourism Festival drew a broad cross-section of visitors from the capital and beyond.
Day two centred on community sports with a fun marathon and a four-kilometre cycling event that attracted enthusiastic participants from all walks of life. Winners of both competitions received cash prizes of Rs 10,000, a gesture aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles and strengthening community engagement through sport. The competitive spirit and the large turnout underscored the event’s success in promoting active family participation.
The festival offered a vibrant mix of attractions including tourism stalls, live cooking demonstrations, family and children’s activities, cultural exhibitions and provincial tourism pavilions. Visitors enjoyed live cultural performances, a painting competition, display by an army band, wall rock climbing, an adventure base camp, street curling, paragliding, hot air ballooning and a vintage car show, all contributing to a lively atmosphere at the Tourism Festival.
In the evening the crowd gathered for regional musical performances that celebrated Pakistan’s cultural tapestry, and the festivities culminated in a grand concert followed by a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the capital’s skies. The impressive closing moments drew a large audience and highlighted the event’s popular appeal.
Federal Minister for Railways Haneef Abbasi attended the closing ceremony and praised the efforts of Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan and the PTDC team for organising the city’s first large-scale tourism and family sports event under government directions. Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan noted that the Tourism Festival demonstrated Pakistan’s potential as a family-friendly and welcoming tourism destination, while Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Secretary IPC, emphasised the role of inter-ministerial coordination and stakeholder collaboration in delivering the successful event. Aftab-ur-Rehman Rana, Managing Director PTDC, welcomed the overwhelming public response and said the turnout reflects growing interest in tourism-led recreational initiatives.
The Pakistan Tourism, Sports & Family Festival 2026 closed on a celebratory note, leaving a strong message of unity, cultural harmony, sportsmanship and renewed focus on domestic tourism. The organisers hope the momentum from the Tourism Festival will encourage more family-oriented events across Pakistan and help position Islamabad as a lively hub for recreational and cultural gatherings.
