PMAS-AAUR Joins UN Climate Partnership Programme
Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi has been accepted into the United Nations Climate Change Universities Partnership Programme, opening new avenues for climate-focused research and education. The university’s membership in the UN Climate Partnership connects faculty and students with global experts to tackle region-specific climate challenges.
Under this collaboration, a selected team of students will carry out supervised research on climate change impacts, adaptation strategies, and sustainable solutions tailored to Pakistan and the broader South Asian region. The programme is designed to strengthen technical, analytical, and policy-oriented research skills while ensuring projects remain relevant to local agricultural and environmental needs.
Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR, said the university is proud to join the initiative and expects the partnership to accelerate work on sustainable agriculture, renewable energy adoption, and climate-resilient farming practices in arid and semi-arid zones. He highlighted that participation in the UN Climate Partnership will empower students and faculty to contribute meaningfully to both national and international climate action.
The university will prioritise applied research and innovation that addresses practical challenges faced by farmers and rural communities, reinforcing Pakistan’s voice in global climate discourse. By combining local expertise with international collaboration, PMAS-AAUR aims to develop actionable solutions that bolster resilience across vulnerable landscapes.
