Strengthening Ties During Belgian Royal Visit

Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Chairman of the Senate, received a Belgian royal delegation at Parliament House in Islamabad, underscoring a mutual resolve to deepen Pakistan-Belgium ties during the Belgian royal visit. The delegation included Prince Edouard de Ligne La Trémoïlle and Princess Isabella Orsini, and the discussions focused on practical steps to expand parliamentary and economic cooperation.

Both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations, parliamentary diplomacy and the evolving regional situation, with the Chairman emphasising that Pakistan regards Belgium as an important partner in Europe. He underlined that Pakistan-Belgium relations are rooted in mutual respect and shared democratic values and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen engagement at both legislative and economic levels.

Chairman Gilani welcomed Belgium’s support for Pakistan’s GSP Plus status, calling it a valuable endorsement for Pakistan’s trade interests and economic development. He noted that enhanced parliamentary contacts and people-to-people exchanges will further promote understanding and practical collaboration between the two countries.

The importance of parliamentary platforms was highlighted, with the Chairman recalling the International Speakers Conference as a meaningful forum for global peace and development. He noted that the November 2025 ISC drew delegations from 39 countries, reflecting Pakistan’s ability to convene diverse voices in pursuit of constructive dialogue.

The Chairman reiterated Pakistan’s belief in the peaceful settlement of disputes and in the primacy of diplomacy, adding that Pakistan continues active diplomatic efforts for peace in the Middle East. He described Pakistan as a peace‑oriented nation committed to promoting global stability, and he said Pakistan defended its sovereignty with restraint and prudence when provoked, with the leadership and courage of its armed forces widely acknowledged.

The Belgian delegation commended Pakistan’s constructive role on the international stage and expressed appreciation for Islamabad’s contributions to global peace initiatives. Both sides agreed to build on parliamentary and economic ties, and Chairman Gilani reaffirmed his commitment to deepen cooperation with Belgium across legislative, trade and diplomatic channels during this Belgian royal visit.
