Bridging Health Professionals for Patient Safety

An informative and interactive event marked International Nursing Day at the College of Medical Technology auditorium on 12 May 2026, bringing health professionals together to strengthen patient safety and interprofessional care.

Dr Ayesha Isani Majeed, Dean Nursing and Allied Health Professionals and Principal of CMT, led the programme attended by the Principal of the School of Nursing, faculty members and students from both the School of Nursing and Allied Health disciplines, underlining the local importance of teamwork in healthcare.

Dr Saima Ehsan, Registrar CMT, opened the session with a welcome address that stressed the need for professional harmony across disciplines to improve outcomes and uphold patient safety in Pakistani hospitals and clinics.

Dr Maria Tahir spoke on clinical leadership and the role of effective coordination in unifying healthcare teams, highlighting how strong leadership practices translate directly into safer care at the bedside.

Guest speaker Madam Khair-Un-Nisa, Principal of the School of Nursing, delivered an informed presentation tied to International Nursing Day, focusing on patient safety as a shared responsibility among doctors, nurses and allied health staff.

Dr Pairzo Achakzai, Vice Principal, addressed communication strategies and their contribution to strengthening the healthcare system, noting that clear dialogue between professionals reduces errors and improves patient outcomes.

In closing remarks, Dr Ayesha Isani Majeed interacted with the audience, commended the organisers and students, and urged continued collaboration between disciplines. She emphasised the importance of triage and harmonious working relationships among doctors, nurses and technicians for truly patient-centred care. Noting the shortage of nurses in Pakistan, she proposed introducing six-month language diploma courses in French, German, Italian and Arabic to assist technicians and nurses seeking opportunities abroad.

The programme concluded with short videos showcasing the dedication of nursing staff and health workers, followed by a group photograph with the Dean, the Principal of the School of Nursing, faculty and students to mark the event’s success and shared commitment to improving patient safety.
